Arkview Network Device USB 2.0 Share Hub Review

Arkview Network Device USB 2.0 Share Hub
Average Reviews:

Just got the Arkview USB server share device for the primary function of sharing a printer on my home network. The good news is that setup could not have been easier and it works like a champ for printer sharing (and this evenis an old parallel port job that I use with a parallel to USB cable). So far so good. Also tried to share a couple of USB flash drives...works like a champ again. The only problem I have is it apparently is not compatible with my Memorex DVD drive. It finds it and connects fine but when you try to view it on any PC it simply shows one file, which it thinks is some kind of Audio cd analog file and no matter what CD or DVD you put in it simply shows that same one file. So a mixed bag. Otherwise if you stick to the drives on the compatibility list I am sure you will be fine. Good solid product, easy setup and easy connection software. That's about all.

I already had the Cisco Valet and one of these adapters on our home PC's. This one I purchased for use on my lap top. I love it! It was extremely easy to set up, and works all over, even out on my patio! I was initially worried that I would have to re-key it everytime I moved my laptop. Not so. A REALLY GREAT product!

USB 2.0 Ethernet 10/100 Network LAN RJ45 Adapter Review

USB 2.0 Ethernet 10/100 Network LAN RJ45 Adapter

Once installed, this item works well. With no printed installation guide included, however, I had to depend on the seller to provide me a driver installation walkthrough, which was essentially as follows (thanks to Cable4Less for this valuable info -- but YOUR unit's requirements may be different):
1. load the driver CD and make sure a DM 9610 subfolder is available deep within the USB LAN folder (if not, find a machine that CAN read the CD, copy the USB LAN folder, with all its subfolders and the files therein, to a memory stick, and use that memory stick in place of the CD);
2. insert the USB LAN device, and [OK] and [Next] your way through the "Found New Hardware" wizard, rejecting Windows' offers to find best drivers for you, but choosing to provide drivers yourself, until you get the opportunity to tell Windows where to find drivers: here choose the [Browse] option and browse through the drive letter your driver-set is mounted at, through the various subfolders, USB LAN, DM 9610, etc., to %YourWindowsVersion%;, and OK your final choice;
3. Windows begins the driver-installation process; when Windows complains about uncertified drivers, just dismiss that warning;
4. install should then finish quickly, but don't connect to ethernet yet;
5. instead, go through Start | Control Panel | Network Connections, to configure you new LAN connection (with DM 9610 in its description) as to DHCP or fixed address options, DNS address, firewall options, etc.; OK your way out;
6. NOW connect ethernet cable from your router or DSL/cable gateway box, and VOILA! the little red pilot light comes on, and you should be connected.
You may have to be a little bit of a geek to take to this like a duck to water, but it's all pretty straightforward. No idea why the manufacturer left no hints at all -- not even the model # -- on the device or on its packaging. No idea why the install CD includes drivers for so many unrelated products, yet has no overall README for guidance. But, once installed, this USB LAN adapter has worked like a charm. And for a grand total of well under a dozen bucks, postpaid at that, it's certainly value for money. If you get one, ASK explicitly if it's the DM 9610 or some other (and, if other, WHICH other). And enjoy!

I needed a replacement Wifi adapter for my HP laptop because the OEM built in chip died. I bought this adapter because a review I read said it worked well with their Linux computer. In Linux it is true plug and play. I use Mepis Linux and I plugged it in, went to the Mepis control to input my WEP key and clicked apply and I was surfing the web. The link level of the OEM chip indicated 52. From the same spot in the house with this adapter my monitor reads 82.
I have Windows Vista installed on this computer also and it works well with Vista too. The included software CD was needed for Vista and after inputting the WEP key in Vista I had to reboot Windows to get it to work, but it works well once it is installed.

I purchased the Buffalo Wireless-N Ultra Compact USB 2.0 Adapater to provide
wireless capability for the WD TV Live that I purchased at the same time. The Wireless Device is as the descritpion very compact and was concerned at first at exactly how small it was. I was thinking, they have forgotten to install the electronics compoents inside it. Installation was a snap. I plugged it into one of the USB 2 ports on the WD Live. Turn on the WD Live and chose Wirless connection. It identified my wireless network, installed SSID Code and we was up and working within mintues. I have watched several movies and Youtube videos
without any problems. My wireless network is a 802.11G so I am not getting the max throughput that the Buffalo Wireless device can support since it can support 802.11 N. I gave it a 4 star on Relability as I haven't had any problems with it since I installed it about 30 days ago, I would like to see how it will work over the next 12 months. But as far as providing compact and ease of use for a USB2 wireless adapater, I don't know of any that would be better. I bought this to replace the internal wireless adapter in my Toshiba Satellite L645D. It works nearly as well as an Intel PRO Wireless card I had in another machine, able to pick up signals from next door strong enough for everyday browsing and a little downloading on the side. The catch is you just have to go to the manufacturer website to get the latest drivers instead of using the CD it comes with (at least for Windows 7 64bit).
A little larger than your thumbnail, it is a very subtle addition to a laptop or a virtually invisible one for desktops, and with the size of the thing I think you'll get the most bang for your buck out of this tiny wireless antenna.

I was inmpressed with the adapter till I connected it to my laptop. I installed the driver and the device worked right away. Then I wasn't impressed at all. The signal strength was very LOW and my connection was poor. I was only 20 feet away from my wireless router. I even tried moving the devices to gain teh signal strength but nothing worked. I turned off this device and turn on the internal laptop WIFI. The signal strenght was HIGH and my connection was excellent. I went back to the GSI adapter and the signal strenght did not improve. My connection never did get better than LOW. I am returning this adapter am may try a different one. Not impressed at all. Even updated the drivers from their website. Nothing work and my skill level is very advanced. My career is networking and I have an extensive background in RF as well.

I read mixed reviews of this product, but decided to give it a try. I used it with two different laptops that have their own built-in adapters, in areas where signals were weak and inconsistent. In both cases, the signals were at least usable. It's not a miracle-worker, but there is a definite difference between the built-in adapters and this one. And because it is on a USB cable, the antenna has more positioning versatility than a whole computer does.

Cisco-Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB Adapter Review

Cisco-Linksys WUSB54G Wireless-G USB Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have a SOHO that uses a wired 10/100 switched network. Already part of this network is a Linksys single port Cable / DSL Router. When it came time to make the jump to wireless, the WAP54G seemed the logical choice, as I would not have to reconfigure anything on my existing network. For my initial conversions, I was converting a desktop PC and an older laptop. For this review, I'll be discussing at the WUSB54G. Look for reviews on all these items posted separately.
I decided on the WUSB54G because I did not have any available internal slots. This computer may be replaced in a year or two, and unplugging the network card from a USB port seemed a lot more attractive than opening the case. Actually, the installation is almost a simple as plugging the adapter into an available USB port.
My initial installation was using Version 2.0 of the installation software. The significance of that will be explained later. Regardless of your version of Windows, I suggest installing the software first. This will eliminate any potential problems in the installation process. Make sure you know your network name and WEP Key. You will need to supply that information during installation or you will not be able to connect right away. If you don't have the key handy, it can be input later, but it is not as convenient.
The Wizard does a good job of walking you through each step. Once done, you will need to reboot. Don't disconnect from the wired network just yet. Wait until the next phase is completed. On boot, you computer should detect the new hardware and install the correct drivers for it. The next step could take a while, so be patient. Your new wireless network card will search for a signal, an access point, and you should be prompted when a network is found. If more than one network is detected, a distinct possibility with the proliferation of wireless networks, you will quickly realize the advantages of naming you network something other that the default and of applying a WEP Key to your network.
The initial connection took about two minutes, but seemed a lot longer! You will see an icon on the Bottom Right of the Task Bar indicating you are connected. I do one final check by opening a command prompt and using the command "ipconfig /all" to show all my adapters. If there's a difference in IP addressing ranges, reboot one more time. If both the wired and wireless connections show IP address in the same range, you're ready to unplug the wired connection. Now try opening your web browser. If you can surf, you're all done.
My experience with this installation was very positive. The wizard was friendly, the physical installation could not have been easier, I had all the information on hand I needed and I was wireless after the first reboot. I'm using this adapter with a G network and I'm getting the full throughput.
One final note: this installation went so smoothly I got another adapter from a local dealer that had a price too good to pass up. When I got home, however, I noticed a small sticker that said this was for Windows 2000 and Windows XP only. I then noticed the serial number and installation software said version 1.0. Hmmm... this was going on a Windows 98SE machine. The hardware specs looked identical, from what I could determine from the box, so I tried an experiment and used the version 2.0 software. It worked just fine. BEWARE: this is not an endorsement that this will work in every case nor should you conclude there is no difference between versions. I strongly suggest you try to get the latest version hardware and software for optimal performance.

I am running a "pre-N" network which simply means it's faster than G speed and with greater range. I bought this adapter for my kids PC about 35 feet away and through an interior wall. The download speeds are nearly as fast as my wired connection - I'm amazed.
Although I'm an advanced user (20 years with a home PC - built a few over the years) getting this device up and running was simply plug and play. I was online in 5 minutes. The connection is rock solid - no drops or loss of speed after a few weeks use. BTW, I opted for USB so the unit can be used on a new PC down the road (since it won't be obsolete for a long while given the speed).

LG AN-WF100 Wi-Fi USB Adaptor Review

LG AN-WF100 Wi-Fi USB Adaptor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This USB Adapter is amazingly simple to install and has been operating flawlessly on my 2010 LG 42" LED HDTV (42LE5400) ever since I installed it 6 weeks ago. It simply plugs in like any other USB Adapter on the back of the TV. Please note that it is not supported by older LG HDTV models (I suggest to check the LG website for specifics).
To get it operational:
Once plugged into the USB port of the HDTV, I needed to first setup the wireless access point on the HDTV (LG's owner's manual says exactly what to do, following on-screen menu selections), then unlock my network via the router and follow the router's software instructions for adding a new network device (I run a 802.11n wireless network using Cisco's "WRT160N" router with WPA2 encryption and manage the network using Cisco's "Network Magic Pro" software). Once the router recognized the USB Adapter as a new device, simply using the remote control of the HDTV to select the correct Network SSID and enter the Network Passphrase (a.k.a. "Security Key") was all that it took to get it running (after locking the network again on the router side).
All in all, it took less than 15 min to get this working on the first try. I have been streaming Netflix videos flawlessly with this wireless connection using the LG HDTV "NETCAST" connection to Netflix.
One thing I didn't realize at the time of the purchase is that this adapter will NOT give you full internet access as one might easily assume or expect. I believe this is really a limitation of the HDTV's, not this USB Adapter, as the HDTV's don't come with full internet browser capabilities yet. It 'only' allows for wireless use of LG's select (and few) "NETCAST" features, such as Netflix, Vudu, etc. (which it does excellently). Instead, I use a wirelessly connected laptop to get on the internet and then route it from my laptop to the HDTV (by way of a regular VGA cable for the video portion and a 3.5mm-to-RCA cable for audio), but again, this is not using this LG USB Adapter.
Apart from the shipping cost of $12.95 (which I found a bit steep for an adapter that weighs almost nothing), I'm very happy with the choice and can absolutely recommend it highly. It shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
